Busiest monthsNovember to April

Pattaya has an event almost every month: music on the beach, kites over the bay, fireworks, marathons and the water fights of Songkran. This overview shows where and roughly when each event takes place and what it means for your airport transfer.

The big five with their own pages

Five events draw so many visitors that they have dedicated transfer pages with closures, timing and drop-off tips:

Concerts and music festivals

  • Pattaya Music Festival – free concerts on weekends, usually through March, with stages on Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach. Thai pop and rock acts draw big weekend crowds from Bangkok.
  • Pattaya International Jazz Festival – a weekend of jazz on the beach, recently held in December.
  • Eastern National Sports Training Center – sports complex on Chaiyapruek 2 Road, inland from Jomtien. Its indoor arena seats up to around 15,000 and hosts concerts and championships.

For beach concerts, central hotels are within walking distance; see Central Pattaya hotels.

The year in events

  • Beach concerts in March and a jazz weekend in December
  • Fireworks, kites and a beach run in front of Central Pattaya
  • Marathons in Pattaya and Bang Saen
  • Pride and Loy Krathong in Bangkok

Beach events and traditional festivals

  • Pattaya International Kite on the Beach – large show kites over Pattaya Beach in front of Central Pattaya, usually late February to early March, in the afternoons.
  • Pattaya International Bikini Beach Race – a fun run in swimwear on the same stretch of beach, usually in November.
  • Pattaya Loy Krathong Celebrations – on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, usually November, people float krathongs on the sea; the city's main celebration has been held at Lan Pho Park in Naklua.
  • Pattaya Chinese New Year Celebrations – lion dances, lanterns and food stalls in January or February, with Naklua's Chinese community at the centre.

Running events

The Pattaya Marathon, most recently held in September (the month has changed over the years), starts and finishes on Beach Road before sunrise; roads along the course close in the early morning hours. North of Pattaya, Bang Saen hosts two races known for their organisation: the Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon, usually in November, and the Bangsaen21 Half Marathon, usually in December. Bang Saen is closer to Suvarnabhumi than Pattaya is, roughly an hour by car; the Suvarnabhumi to Chonburi page covers that coast. With an early start, arrive a day before and collect your race kit.

Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival

Every October, Chonburi town holds the Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival, a fair of more than a week with the races on the ground in front of the Provincial Hall. Decorated buffaloes, a beauty contest for the animals and market stalls make it a lively day trip. Chonburi town is about an hour north of Pattaya; the U-Tapao to Chonburi route shows the drive from the south.

Festivals in Bangkok

  • Bangkok Pride Festival – a colourful parade through central Bangkok, usually in June, followed by parties and events across the city.
  • Bangkok Loy Krathong Festival – in November, crowds release krathongs on the Chao Phraya and in park lakes; riverside venues such as ICONSIAM and Asiatique hold their own events.

Combine a festival in the capital with beach days by booking Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok Riverside or Suvarnabhumi to Siam & Ratchaprasong first.

Planning a transfer around an event

Most events in Pattaya take place on Beach Road, so closures affect hotels on the seafront first. Land early in the day, write your hotel's side entrance in the remarks, and choose the vehicle by luggage, not seats. Groups of friends fit into a minibus with up to 19 seats. On the morning after a big event, many visitors leave at the same time: give yourself extra time to reach the airport.
