Between Siam Paragon, CentralWorld and Central Embassy lies Bangkok's densest cluster of large hotels. Most have driveways off Rama I, Ploenchit, Ratchadamri or Wireless Road, and your driver picks the approach that avoids the busiest junctions.
The area from Siam to Ploenchit is a single strip of malls and hotels along Rama I and Ploenchit Road, with the BTS overhead and covered skywalks linking most of the buildings. To the north, Pratunam is busier and more down-to-earth, with wholesale clothing and the Platinum Fashion Mall. Ratchaprasong itself is the crossroads where Ratchadamri Road meets Rama I and Ploenchit; it is also a regular venue for big public gatherings such as the New Year's countdown at CentralWorld, when streets close for the evening.
East of Chidlom the hotels get quieter and many of them back onto embassy grounds along Wireless Road (Witthayu).
Ratchadamri Road runs south from the Erawan Shrine past the Royal Bangkok Sports Club towards Lumphini Park, with several large hotels on its western side.
Pratunam's side streets fill with delivery vans and market traffic from early morning, so drop-offs on Phetchaburi Road are quickest late in the evening.
The driver meets you with a name sign in the arrivals hall; the pickup page explains the steps after landing. The car follows Motorway 7 and the urban expressway, leaving it towards Phetchaburi Road or Ploenchit depending on where your hotel's driveway is. Late evening it is often a 40-minute drive; on weekday afternoons the last two kilometres around Ratchaprasong can take as long as the motorway section. If you stay further south near Lumphini, the Silom and Sathorn page fits better.
Most of the large hotels here have spacious driveways, which makes arriving in a minibus for up to 19 people straightforward. Families with prams and several suitcases are well served by a minivan; child seats are available on request. The fixed price for the whole vehicle appears before you book. For trips to the coast later on, the guides to the transfer from Pathum Wan and from Ratchathewi to Pattaya cover the route from Siam and Pratunam.
Usually 40 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes for roughly 30 km. The final stretch around Ratchaprasong is often the slowest part on weekday afternoons.
Among others the InterContinental at Chidlom, The Okura Prestige at Ploenchit, the St. Regis at Ratchadamri and the Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai. That helps for city trips after arrival.
On nights such as the New Year's countdown, some streets around Ratchaprasong close. The driver then approaches your hotel from an open side, which may take longer.
Yes, as long as you arrive outside the morning market hours, when side streets are congested. Hotels on Phetchaburi Road have their own drop-off areas.
