Silom and Sathorn are Bangkok's office district by day and a rooftop-bar quarter by night. Sathorn's split one-way roads mean the right approach matters, and your driver plans it from the expressway exit onwards.
The district stretches from Lumphini Park and Rama IV Road west towards the Chao Phraya. Silom Road carries the BTS and is lined with banks, street food and the Patpong night market; Sathorn Road, parallel to the south, is the address for embassies, office towers and many upmarket hotels. Surawong Road, north of Silom, is quieter and slightly older. Hotels directly on the water are on the separate Bangkok Riverside page.
On the northern and eastern edges of the park, new developments have joined the established hotels.
Sathorn is split into a northbound and a southbound carriageway with a canal between them. A hotel on South Sathorn cannot simply be reached from North Sathorn; the driver has to use the next crossing, which in rush hour takes time.
Around Patpong the evening market stalls and taxis queueing for passengers narrow the lanes. If you arrive in the evening, the short stretch between Silom and Surawong can take longer than expected, so a little patience on the last few hundred metres is normal.
After you have met your driver in the arrivals hall, the car takes Motorway 7 and continues on the expressway towards Rama IV and Sathorn, where several exits serve the district. At quiet times the drive takes around 40 minutes; on weekday evenings Sathorn and Narathiwat are among the slowest roads in the city, and an hour or more is realistic. Leaving for the airport in the afternoon, plan generously, especially on Fridays.
Many guests here are on business, often with a meeting the same afternoon. The business transfer page explains the vehicle classes for that, and the fixed price for the whole vehicle is shown before you book. For conferences at QSNCC, a few minutes east along Rama IV, see the QSNCC transfer. If you continue to the coast, the guide from Sathon to Pattaya covers the drive.

Sathorn Road is split into two one-way carriageways with a canal between them. To reach a hotel on the other side, the driver has to use the next crossing.
