Bangkok hosts two large car shows a year, both at IMPACT Challenger in Muang Thong Thani: the Bangkok International Motor Show in spring and the Thailand International Motor Expo at the end of the year. Book your ride from the airport to the halls or your hotel.

Bangkok International Motor Show

The spring show is the traditional opening of Thailand's car year. It usually starts in the last week of March and runs into early April, with press days at the start where manufacturers present new models and their plans for the Thai market. For the public it is a big day out: brand stands with stage shows, test drives outside the halls and a large motorcycle section. Industry visitors from dealers, importers and suppliers come mainly on weekdays, when the halls are quieter.

Thailand International Motor Expo

The Thailand International Motor Expo takes over the same halls from late November into early December. Its focus is on sales: many visitors come to sign a contract before the end of the year, and dealers bring special finance offers. For professionals it is a good moment to see which models are selling and how the electric car market is moving.

Two shows, one venue

  • Each show runs for roughly two weeks
  • New models and launches from Asian, European and Chinese brands
  • Media days before the public opening
  • Motorcycles and EVs on large dedicated areas

Getting to Challenger

IMPACT is in the north of Bangkok, around 15 km from Don Mueang and about 50 km from Suvarnabhumi. Your driver drops you at the Challenger entrance or at your hotel; the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani page explains the buildings and the hotels on the grounds. During both shows, weekend afternoons see long queues of private cars at the car park entrances, so a drop-off by a booked car or the Pink Line branch is quicker than parking yourself.

Where to stay during show weeks

The Novotel and ibis on the IMPACT grounds are the obvious choice for exhibitors and journalists covering the media days, and they are booked early. Good alternatives are the hotels along Chaeng Watthana Road and around Don Mueang, which keep the morning drive short. If you prefer central Bangkok, allow 45 minutes to an hour to reach Challenger on weekday mornings. Visitors who only come for one day often fly into Don Mueang in the morning, spend the afternoon at the show and leave the same evening; tell us your flight times and the driver plans the pick-up around them.

Industry trips: plants in the east

Thailand's car industry is concentrated south-east of Bangkok, in Chonburi and Rayong. Many trade visitors combine the motor show with visits to assembly plants and parts suppliers in the industrial estates there; our page on transfers to the EEC industrial estates covers the main locations. For a delegation, a minibus with up to 19 seats keeps everyone on the same schedule.

Spring show and Songkran

The Motor Show often ends shortly before Songkran, the Thai New Year in mid-April. If your trip runs into the holidays, expect heavy traffic out of Bangkok and water fights in the streets; in Pattaya the celebrations last longer than elsewhere. Our page on Songkran and Wan Lai in Pattaya explains what that means for your travel days.

Year-end Expo and the coast

The Motor Expo falls in the cool, dry months, the high season on the east coast. From IMPACT, Pattaya is about 160 to 170 km, usually 2 h 15 min to 3 hours away. If you stay on into the holidays, see the Pattaya Countdown and New Year's Eve transfers.
