A minivan is the answer when a saloon is too small and a minibus too big: six to nine travellers, depending on how much they carry, plus golf bags, a surfboard or a folded wheelchair. One vehicle, one driver, one fixed price.

How many people fit in a minivan?

The honest answer is: it depends on the luggage. With one large suitcase and a carry-on each, six adults travel comfortably. If you pack light, as business travellers or weekenders often do, up to nine people fit. The more bags you bring, the more seats are folded down to make room, and the fewer passengers the van can take. That is why the booking form asks for both numbers, and why it is worth counting carefully.

Bangkok airport transfer with extra luggage

Many minivan bookings are not about the number of people but about the things they bring. Typical examples:

  • Golf bags – a group of four golfers with travel covers needs a van, not a car
  • Surfboards and kiteboards – boards in bags up to a normal board length fit lengthways with folded seats
  • Diving equipment – heavy boxes for a trip via Ban Phe to Koh Samet
  • Strollers and travel cots – for families with small children
  • Folding wheelchairs and walkers – travel in the luggage area

Enter every bulky item in the remarks. A driver who knows in advance can arrange the load, a driver who is surprised at the kerb cannot. More tips are in the guide on special baggage on Pattaya transfers.

Why travellers choose a minivan

  • Sliding doors and a high roof make boarding easy
  • Rear seats can be folded to make room for luggage
  • Everyone travels together instead of in two cars
  • Suitable for long routes such as Hua Hin or Trat

Minivan or minibus?

As soon as the group exceeds nine people, or six to eight people bring a lot of luggage, the next step is a minibus with up to 19 seats. It has a separate luggage area, so passengers and bags no longer compete for space. For school classes, wedding guests or company outings, the page on transfers for families and groups explains how to split larger parties.

Popular minivan routes

The classic is Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya, roughly two hours on Motorway 7 with golfers, families or friends heading to the beach. From Don Mueang, groups often travel to Hua Hin or Khao Yai; from U-Tapao, the minivan reaches Jomtien or Bang Saray in well under an hour. Golfers who play several courses during their stay will find the golf transfers in Pattaya useful as well.

Travelling with a wheelchair

A folding wheelchair fits in the luggage area of a minivan; please note it in the form along with whether the passenger can walk a few steps and climb into the vehicle. The minivan is not a vehicle with a lift or ramp. How to prepare such a trip is described in the guide on accessible transfers to Pattaya.

At the airport: meeting your minivan driver

The pickup works just as with a car: the driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign and then leads the group to the vehicle. With many cases a luggage trolley helps, so take one at baggage claim. If part of the group is delayed at immigration, the 90 minutes of included waiting time apply to the whole booking.

Frequently asked questions

How many people fit in a minivan?+

Usually six to nine, depending on luggage. With one large suitcase per person, six is a comfortable number.

Can I bring golf bags or surfboards?+

Yes, as long as you note them in the booking form. The number and size of items determine how many seats remain available.

Is a folding wheelchair allowed?+

Yes, it travels in the luggage area. Please state it in the form; the minivan has no lift or ramp.

What if we are ten people?+

Then a minibus with up to 19 seats is the better choice, or two vehicles if you prefer to split up.

Is the minivan price per seat?+

No. The fixed price applies to the whole vehicle and is shown before you pay.
