Pratumnak is the headland that separates Pattaya Bay from Jomtien Beach. Pratumnak Road climbs from the southern end of Pattaya over the hill and comes down at Thappraya Road on the Jomtien side; smaller roads branch off to condos, villas and the coves along the shore. There is no beach promenade and little through-traffic, which is why many long-stay visitors and families choose it. From the motorway, your driver usually comes in via Thepprasit Road or Thappraya Road rather than through central Pattaya. Walking Street is a few minutes downhill, and Jomtien Beach starts right at the foot of the hill.
The Pattaya Viewpoint (Khao Pattaya View Point) sits on the ridge above Bali Hai Pier. From the platform you look north across the whole bay and the city skyline, and on clear days out to Koh Larn. A shrine to Prince Chumphon, the father of the Thai navy, stands next to it. Sunset is the busiest time, and parking at the top is tight, so a quick stop on the way to your hotel works better than a long wait. If you want to include it in your arrival, add it as a stop in the booking. The Big Buddha temple is a short drive further along the hill.

Much of Pratumnak is condos and private villas, and many sit on sois with similar names. For a smooth drop-off, add the building name, the soi and, if you have it, the tower or villa number. Some complexes have a guarded gate where the driver has to stop; a phone number in the booking helps if the guard asks who is expected. For the trip back to the airport, the same details let your driver come straight to the right lobby.
Most international arrivals land at Suvarnabhumi, and from there Pratumnak is a straightforward motorway drive. From U-Tapao in the south the trip is shorter and avoids Bangkok traffic altogether; see U-Tapao to Pattaya. Don Mueang adds the crossing of Bangkok, so allow extra time on weekday afternoons.
